X-FireMoffett Federal Airfield was not only a great scientific community (they were in the process of perfecting teleportation devices) but also supported the Anti-Spacecraft Missile Defense Network for the entire North American West Coast. A Brute regiment had been sent to take out the barrage of weaponry that was decimating their fleet on this side of the planet. During the incursion a small force of high level scientist and soldiers had holed up in Hangar 3 to defend the power supply to the Network.
The Grunts had inadvertently electrified most of the floor grids of the hangar; cutting the building in half with their effort to knock out the power to the Anti-Spacecraft Missile Defense Network. As the soldiers and armed scientists tried to hold out for reinforcements OR extraction from the doomed base, the Jackals had laid down deadly crossfire in an effort to support the Brutes as they organized an assault to exterminate this small band of resistance and take out the last set of generators on the other side of the building.
The few extracted survivors of this skirmish were awarded the X-Fire Medal of Valor. Their few extra hours of holding the last set of generators had saved Seattle and Portland from being completely destroyed. The ceremony was held on the ashes of what was San Francisco.
